Southeast Asia Series

The Southeast Asia: Assessment, Challenges and Perspectives(LAsie du Sud-Est. Bilan, enjeux et perspectives) Series

Each year, the Research Institute on Contemporary Southeast Asia (IRASEC), headquartered in Bangkok, analyses the main political, economic, social, environmental, and religious events that occurred in the Southeast Asian region in the past year.

In establishing a retrospective timeline of the past year’s major events, this collection participates in developing a higher understanding of the main short- and long-term challenges and perspectives in a region that is home to 600 million people and that, now more than ever, acts as an interface between the great Asian centres and the West. Thanks to the year-long fieldwork conducted by various researchers and experts, the “Southeast Asia” Collection helps to decipher the complex, dense and dynamic Asian reality.

Each volume includes:

•  Three thematic and transnational dossiers

•  One debate on an epistemological or regional issue

•  11 country studies

In addition to presenting a clear and detailed analysis, each of the collection’s books provides various practical tools on the study of Southeast Asia, which consist of the following:

•  a chronology of the region’s major events of the past year

•  addresses of the various francophone and international research centres, a list of training centres/institutions, and a list of documentation centres related to the study of Southeast Asia

•  a list of the main books published over the past year

•  a reference list of institutional and community websites on the region

The 2014 Southeast Asia volume (edited by Jérémy Jammes and François Robinne) contains an additional item at the end: an analytical list of the main think tanks that are present in Southeast Asia.
