Since the late 1990s, the growing framing of migration in terms of security risks in destination countries has been the subject of extensive literature, particularly in the fields of political science and critical geography. Surprisingly, however, the social sciences have paid very little attention to migrants’ perceptions of migration risks, unlike migration economics, which quickly addressed this question, making risk and its management by migrant populations a crucial component of migratory rationalities. The topical collection “On the Roads of Migration : Circulations, Risk, and the Managing of Uncertainty” aims to address this gap within the field of social sciences.

Responding to recent calls in migration studies to focus on the understudied “middle-space of migration,” this article critically evaluates the available literature on migration industry, migration infrastructures, and migration brokerage. Recognizing their value, we propose to move on through a step of “de-theorizing,” to address their mutual theoretical tensions and inconsistencies. By focusing on the basic notion of “migration routes,” simply defined as spatially structured networks of places and segments bridging places of origin, transit, and destination, we offer a common analytical framework to approach the actors, infrastructures, and practices involved in moving migrants, thus leveraging geography’s emphasis on space and space-making processes. We then borrow the concept of “linked ecology” from Andrew Abbott, to capture the complex interactions involved in shaping individual routes. In doing so, we hope to offer a new perspective to approach the middle-spaces of migration and design future research programs.

This article outlines the key phases of the transformation of the Indonesian religio-political landscape, beginning with the aftermath of World War II as well as colonial emancipation and continuing to the present landscape, marked by the enduring legacy of the previous authoritarian regime’s era in 1998.

La réalité du changement climatique est un fait acquis : les sciences « dures » œuvrent depuis plusieurs années à en rendre compte. Parce que les travaux des sciences humaines et sociales sur ce phénomène sont d’une grande richesse et diversité, il peut sembler difficile d’en avoir une vision d’ensemble. Ces recherches sont pourtant essentielles pour mieux comprendre, lutter contre et s’adapter au changement climatique.

En réunissant juristes, économistes, anthropologues, archéologues, géographes, historiens, philosophes, politistes, sociologues et spécialistes de littérature et d’arts, cet ouvrage offre au lecteur une mise en commun de leurs travaux. Il les articule autour de quelques grandes thématiques : décarbonation de la société, transition juste, impacts sur la vie quotidienne, mobilisations et actions en justice, climato-scepticisme, santé publique…

Après le coup d’État du 1er février 2021 en Birmanie, des modalités d’action rituelles ont été médiatisées par la résistance, dans la rue et sur les réseaux sociaux, pour agir contre les militaires. Ces modalités d’action rituelles, largement répandues dans la société birmane et bouddhique, ont servi de support à des interprétations variées : guerre psychologique contre les militaires, outil de dénonciation de leurs croyances présumées, manipulation de forces puissantes, révolution féministe, etc. La circulation des contenus rituels dans l’espace public et sur internet, réémergeant parfois dans les médias dits traditionnels, resurgissant réinventés ou transformés dans l’espace public, voyageant dans les réseaux de la diaspora en exil, a constitué un moment inédit de la révolution birmane et s’est révélée efficace, dans les premiers mois du coup d’État, pour résister face à la violence imposée par les militaires. La lecture polysémique de ce moment qui mobilise le rituel mais n’est pas revendiqué comme tel par une partie de la résistance, permet de saisir ce qui se joue en contexte globalisé et médiatisé de révolution.

Dengue fever is an urban, tropical, and semi-tropical disease transmitted by Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes. One significant challenge lies in identifying reliable intra-urban indicators of their densities. Following standardized sampling protocols that adequately take into account the spatial heterogeneity of the geographical contexts which may influence mosquito habitats is therefore fundamental to compare studies and follow such relevant indicators.

François Robinne vient de publier un article dans le dernier numéro de la revue Anthropologie et sociétés (Vol. 47, n° 3, « Solidarités et tensions »), dans lequel il donne une analyse des événements en cours en Birmanie.

Olivier Telle (CNRS, IRASEC) published an article in collaboration with Researchers from Institut Pasteur Paris, New York and Buenos Aires Universities and Santa Fe Institute investigating the link between dengue and the urban and climatic environment of Delhi, India.

Jérémy Ianni vient de publier un article dans la revue Religiologiques (no 45, printemps/automne 2023, 191–215).

Aux Philippines, on note une irruption discursive contre l’Église catholique romaine, en particulier depuis la mandature de l’ancien président Rodrigo Duterte. Cette reconfiguration discursive concerne en particulier l’utilisation de la drogue, et indique, selon les théories foucaldiennes, un transfert savoir-pourvoir. Les Églises « born again » sont l’un des foyers de cette nouvelle expression.
