A geographer by training, Nicolas Salem-Gervais has been teaching Burmese language at the Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales (INALCO) since 2008. Affiliated with the Centre Asie du Sud-Est (CASE), his work focuses on various aspects of the links between formal education and the process of national construction in Myanmar (Burma). More specifically, he is interested in the question of national novels transmitted by history textbooks, as well as in the various issues underlying language policy in schools. His current and future work, as part of a delegation to IRASEC, also includes issues related to education for Burmese migrants in Thailand.
