About IRASEC

Created in 2001, the Research Institute on Contemporary Southeast Asia is a French research centre based in Bangkok. It is part of the network of 27 French research institutes abroad (IFRE) supported by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE - UMIFRE 22) and the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS - UAR 3142).

Hosting of lecturer-researchers (University) in CNRS delegation at IRASEC

Delegations abroad follow the normal procedure of the reception campaign as a teacher-researcher delegation, generally launched in October November. The schedule of delegation requests is specific to each university and necessarily involves successive votes by the UFR Council and UFR Scientific Council and then by the university authorities (CA and Scientific Council). IRASEC Scholarships

These grants are open to applicants of all nationalities who are enrolled in a doctoral program at a French university and conducting research on contemporary Southeast Asia. They are intended to support fieldwork related to the applicant’s doctoral research topic. Support for short-term international mobility (SMI) (from 3 to 9 months) for researchers, research engineers and professors

Doctoral contracts with international mobility

The InSHS opens a call for applications for the award of 4 doctoral contracts of 36 months in autumn for a submission of the application is usually mid-December. The purpose of the call is to examine applications submitted by a supervisor or co-supervisors qualified to supervise a thesis in a doctoral school, who propose a doctoral subject.

Associate Research Fellows

The association link concerns researchers and teacher-researchers in any research or higher education institution, as well as independent researchers who collaborate with IRASEC and its members through collective projects carried out at or by IRASEC. This link is also of interest to doctoral students or young doctors based in Bangkok or in the South-East Asia region.

The network of UMIFRE

IRASEC is part of the network of UMIFRE (Unités Mixtes de Recherche à l’Etranger - mixed units of French research institutes abroad) which are research institutes specialised in human and social sciences. There are 27 institutes, most of them managed by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, under joint supervision with the CNRS.

Atlas Scholarships

The Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme (FMSH) and the Institut de recherche sur l’Asie du Sud-Est contemporaine (IRASEC) are offering 2 to 3 month mobility grants for young researchers to carry out a research project in a country in Southeast Asia.
