Experience

Catherine Baron is Professor of Spatial Planning and Urban Studies at Sciences Po Toulouse, a socio-economist, and a researcher at IRASEC since September 2026. For nearly twenty-five years, her research has focused on water governance, first in West Africa and, since 2017, in Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia and Thailand. She adopts a comparative and interdisciplinary approach drawing notably on institutional analysis, political ecology, and scholarship on the commons. Her research focuses in particular on equity in access to drinking water in disadvantaged urban neighbourhoods, integrated water resources management, pollution and epistemic justice, the circulation and local translation of governance models, as well as the co-production and co-creation of knowledge and governance arrangements. She is an associate researcher at LEREPS (Laboratory for the Study and Research on Economics, Policies and Social Systems), and a visiting researcher at the Regional Center for Social Science and Sustainable Development (RCSD) et Center for Ethnic Studies and Development (CESD) at Chiang Mai University.
