Dominique MENGUY
Dr. Dominique Menguy is a French social anthropologist and a field expert of Laos, Thailand, and Indonesia. As a former French Police officer in charge of investigations with the Children Protection Department (1987-1997), he is very knowledgeable on human trafficking and criminality. He spent several years (1998-2003) in Lao PDR. undertaking field investigations on his own in social anthropology and history and gained a good knowledge of the situation of the ethnic groups in northern continental Southeast Asia. He obtained his PhD (Southeast Asian Languages, Literatures and Societies) in 2002 from the French National Institute for Oriental Languages and Civilisations (INALCO, Paris) with a thesis focused on ancient manuscripts. The same year he published Sinxay, a French translation of the masterpiece of Lao literature, and in 2007 he published Khun Burom, a book on the origins of Laos, from an ancient manuscript that he translated and edited. From 2005 to 2009, he was posted with the Security Department of the French Embassy in Jakarta. Now back in France, he works with the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Interior, dealing mainly with Asian countries.
