Regional Integration, Inequalities and Social Cohesion in South-East Asia

International conference organised by IRASEC, CAF, CEPN, ESCAP, and IRD.
This conference was held on December 16th at the Academy of Social Sciences of Vietnam in Hanoi. It gathered several economists whose research focus on East Asia regional integration with a special emphasis on ASEAN Economic Community due to be launched in 2015. Presentations dealt with the impact of a reduction of trade costs on regional trade, on foreign exchange and global value chains, on ASEAN single market and creative industries, on the consequences of regional integration on growth inclusiveness, on the link between poverty and social cohesion, and the role of social cohesion as a shock absorber. Other communications have analised the role of social capital in the informal sector and the participation of Vietnamese citizens to public life. This conference is a first step in the project "ASEAN Economic Community 2015 : A driving force for Asian regional integration ?" managed by Bruno Jetin, researcher at IRASEC.
