Time, Space, Memory

Conference cycle in partnership with the Institut français in Cambodia
Organized by Anne Yvonne Guillou, anthropologist CNRS/IRASEC

What is left from the past, the past that is far or close from us? What does a society forget and what does it remember? How does collective memory evolve and how does it transform over time? What is the relation between memory and history?

IRASEC’s cycle of conference “Time, space and memory” explores the construction process of collective memory and evidences of the past in Cambodian society. All the invited speakers are experienced field scholars who specialized in a specific discipline of social sciences (anthropology, demography, history)

Each speaker will present a different aspect of mechanisms of memory, through time conceptions, informed by religion but also through the relation with the land and the silent memory of the body. These researches conducted in Cambodia enlighten us on Cambodian memory and bring to light universal social mechanisms.
