L’IRASEC était représentée au GYSS cette année par Clément Berthou, doctorant en économie à l’Université Grenoble Alpes. Il a eu l’opportunité d’y présenter ses recherches sur la dollarisation du Cambodge dans le cadre d’une poster session et d’y croiser les deux autres représentants du CNRS présents : Paul Bruand et Lucile Vaschalde, tous deux post-doctorants au Japon.

In Indonesia, 2024 was punctuated by election campaigns and various ballots : presidential and legislative votes (February 14), then to renew 545 regional chiefs (November 27), most of whom were previously represented on an interim basis.
While some mass-based parties have experienced a setback, and the number of candidates from political dynasties has increased compared to previous elections, do these elections mark a renewal or, on the contrary, are they part of a continuity ? How should we interpret the large number of army and police officers (both active and veteran) appointed to the Cabinet of newly-elected President Prabowo Subianto ? Have the numerous modifications and manipulations of electoral regulations and mechanisms that have marked 2023 and 2024 eroded citizens’ confidence in the democratic system ?
The Institute for Research on Contemporary Southeast Asia (IRASEC) held its third Winter Doctoral School from November 25 to December 7, 2024. Dedicated to sustainable development studies in Southeast Asia, the two-week event brought together 20 students in Bangkok and Manila. The organizing committee was made up of IRASEC, the main coordinator, and two partners : the Faculty of Sociology and Anthropology at Thammasat University (Bangkok), and the Center for Integrative Development Studies (CIDS) at the University of the Philippines Diliman (Philippines).

The seminar is jointly organized by the French Embassy in Thailand and the Research Institute on Contemporary Southeast Asia (IRASEC). It will gather experts from Thailand, the United Nations and France, providing a comparative approach to global issues of road safety and formulating concrete recommendations. It will include three round-table discussions and presentations led by experts from various Southeast Asian countries and France (magistrates and police officers), for a comparative approach to the context and challenges of road safety in Southeast Asia, and the formulation of concrete recommendations for improving road safety. The round tables will be held in English, with Thai interpretation.

Bringing together the key stakeholders in global health in Thailand and the region and focusing 1) on the impacts of climate change on human health in SEA and 2) on a better anticipation, prevention and preparation for public emergencies and climate change under the One health approach, this meeting will provide space for the region’s climate and health stakeholders — civil society, governments, academies, development and technical partners :
- To be equipped with the latest information and updates on climate and health science, evidence and discourses ;
- To develop regional collaborations on climate and health and identify common key issues, priorities and concerns ;
- To co-create and agree on a multi-stakeholder action agenda on climate and health for the region and recommendations for regional mitigation policies.

During these discussions, participants - librarians, curators, archivists, researchers and policy-makers - have been invited to share their experiences, best practices and innovative approaches.
