Du 7 au 10 avril 2025, une formation de quatre jours sur les sciences de la durabilité a été organisée à l’Ecole d’innovation sociale de l’Université Mae Fah Luang (Chiang Rai) avec le soutien de l’IRD, de l’IRASEC et de l’Université Chulalongkorn. La formation a rassemblé une vingtaine d’étudiants.

From 7 to 10 April 2025, this training course for 2nd year BA students in International Development (25 participants) will take place at the School of Social Innovation, Mae Fah Luang University. It will be organized by Mae Fah Luang University ; Research Institute on Contemporary Southeast Asia (IRASEC) ; Chulalongkorn University ; French Research Institute for Development (IRD).

L’IRASEC était représentée au GYSS cette année par Clément Berthou, doctorant en économie à l’Université Grenoble Alpes. Il a eu l’opportunité d’y présenter ses recherches sur la dollarisation du Cambodge dans le cadre d’une poster session et d’y croiser les deux autres représentants du CNRS présents : Paul Bruand et Lucile Vaschalde, tous deux post-doctorants au Japon.

Les 10 et 11 décembre 2024, à Bangkok, Éric Daudé lançait avec ses partenaires S. Boyer, A. Cebeillac, F. Girond, V. Herbreteau et R. Paul entre autres, le projet SEA-ROADS. Il a fait une présentation sur les modèles de risques intra-urbain de dengue.

Dans le cadre de l’école d’été 2024 “Southeast Asia at the Heart of Indo-Pacific Strategies” co-organisé par l’IRASEC, l’Université de Montréal et le German-Southeast Asian Center of Excellence for Public Policy and Good Governance (CPG) à l’Université de Thammasat, les 42 étudiants présents ont eu l’honneur d’échanger avec l’ambassadeur de France Jean-Claude POIMBOEUF, l’ambassadeur de l’Union européenne David DALY et la conseillère des affaires politiques de l’ambassade du Canada Cathy HARDMAN, sur les points (...)

Jérémy Ianni participera au colloque organisé par l’Institut Catholique de Paris, le samedi 6 avril à 16h avec une intervention intitulée « De la théologie au psycho-religieux : une étude des praxis religieuses à partir du cas d’une fraternité de dénomination Born Again aux Philippines ».

The One Urban Health Workshop, organized by researchers Olivier Telle (CNRS, researcher at IRASEC) and Serge Morand (CNRS, associate researcher at IRASEC), took place on January 30-31 at CNRS Singapore, drawing over 100 participants from across Southeast Asia. Climate change, escalating pollution, and the loss of wildlife pose major health challenges for individuals in Southeast Asia. Additionally, while historical pathogens like dengue, malaria, and scrub typhus persist, there is an alarming increase in epidemics due to emerging viruses, especially zoonoses, which are rapidly emerging in the region.

In response to these challenges, the ’One Health’ approach, which highlights the interdependence between human, animal, and environmental health, is gaining recognition.

Bangkok, 4th-14th June 2024

During the next edition of UTAB (4th-14th June 2024), we will produce knowledge and research on the theme of the ordinary city, drawing on the case of Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand. We will study the ordinary city in Rattanakosin, the historical core of the royal capital founded in 1782. The monumental heritage of Rattanakosin has been extensively documented and conserved with the support of Thai authorities. Yet the « ordinary urban » of the daily life of residents, urban dwellers, and tourists remains, with few remarkable exceptions, understudied.

The young researchers who will attend UTAB 2024 will be involved in the ongoing research conducted by the Faculty of Architecture of Chulalongkorn University in cooperation with the CREMA network, which is aimed at bringing ordinary Rattanakosin into the landscape of urban knowledge.
