This article outlines the key phases of the transformation of the Indonesian religio-political landscape, beginning with the aftermath of World War II as well as colonial emancipation and continuing to the present landscape, marked by the enduring legacy of the previous authoritarian regime’s era in 1998.

Le développement de ce site a commencé en juin 2021, dans le cadre du projet Décolonisation des archives sonores d’Asie du Sud-Est (DeCoSEAS), subventionné par le Joint Programming Initiative on Cultural Heritage and Global Change (JPICH), 2021-2024.

La Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme (FMSH) et l’Institut de recherche sur l’Asie du Sud-Est contemporaine (IRASEC) proposent à des postdoctorant.e.s résidant en France et ayant soutenu leur thèse à partir de 2019, une aide à la mobilité pour réaliser un séjour de recherche de 2 ou 3 mois dans les pays d’Asie du Sud-Est (Brunei, Cambodge, Indonésie, Laos, Malaisie, Philippines, Singapour, Thaïlande, Timor-Leste, Vietnam).

L’IRASEC était représentée au GYSS cette année par Clément Berthou, doctorant en économie à l’Université Grenoble Alpes. Il a eu l’opportunité d’y présenter ses recherches sur la dollarisation du Cambodge dans le cadre d’une poster session et d’y croiser les deux autres représentants du CNRS présents : Paul Bruand et Lucile Vaschalde, tous deux post-doctorants au Japon.

In Indonesia, 2024 was punctuated by election campaigns and various ballots : presidential and legislative votes (February 14), then to renew 545 regional chiefs (November 27), most of whom were previously represented on an interim basis.
While some mass-based parties have experienced a setback, and the number of candidates from political dynasties has increased compared to previous elections, do these elections mark a renewal or, on the contrary, are they part of a continuity ? How should we interpret the large number of army and police officers (both active and veteran) appointed to the Cabinet of newly-elected President Prabowo Subianto ? Have the numerous modifications and manipulations of electoral regulations and mechanisms that have marked 2023 and 2024 eroded citizens’ confidence in the democratic system ?

The Institute for Research on Contemporary Southeast Asia (IRASEC) held its third Winter Doctoral School from November 25 to December 7, 2024. Dedicated to sustainable development studies in Southeast Asia, the two-week event brought together 20 students in Bangkok and Manila. The organizing committee was made up of IRASEC, the main coordinator, and two partners : the Faculty of Sociology and Anthropology at Thammasat University (Bangkok), and the Center for Integrative Development Studies (CIDS) at the University of the Philippines Diliman (Philippines).

Les 10 et 11 décembre 2024, à Bangkok, Éric Daudé lançait avec ses partenaires S. Boyer, A. Cebeillac, F. Girond, V. Herbreteau et R. Paul entre autres, le projet SEA-ROADS. Il a fait une présentation sur les modèles de risques intra-urbain de dengue.

We are pleased to announce the start of IRASEC’s 2024 Winter School on Sustainable Development Studies in Southeast Asia. The training takes place this week in Bangkok and the following week in Manila.

L’IRASEC accueille chaque année trois stagiaires pour une durée de quatre mois à Bangkok (Thaïlande). Ce stage à plein temps offre aux étudiants l’opportunité de travailler dans un laboratoire de recherche en sciences humaines et sociales sur le sud-est asiatique contemporain. Les périodes de stages sont : janvier-avril, mai-août et septembre-décembre.

La date limite pour l’envoi des dossiers de candidature au stage 2 mai au 31 août 2025 est le 12 janvier 2025, mais nous invitons les candidats à postuler dès à présent.
